Hike of the Month: Schunemunk Hike Sunday, May 13, NOON
Sterling Forest is now the Steward of Schunemunk State Park and we would love to have you see this wonderful park. This will be moderate to strenuous 5.5 mile hike, we will meet at the parking lot on Otterkill road near the RR bridge at 12:30 pm.  

Lecture Series: Snakes of Sterling Forest Friday, May 18, 7 PM
Doc Bayne will talk about the snakes that live in Sterling Forest and the surrounding area. Come and enjoy a slithering evening.  

Family Nature Series: Snakes in the Park Saturday, May 19, 1 PM
Everything you ever wanted to know about snakes; where they live, what they do, what they eat, and how they breed. This will be an easy hike.  

Family Fun Hike: History Hike on Iona Island Sunday, May 27, NOON
Join us as we explore the history of Iona Island Sanctuary. We will meet at Iona Island parking area at by the RR crossing at Noon. This will be an easy to moderate 2 mile hike. 

Family Fun Hike: Iron Mining History Sunday, June 3, 1 PM
Iron ruled the landscape in what today is Sterling Forest State Park. Take a step back in time and explore the park’s rich past, first at our visitor’s center and then go on an easy 2-mile hike. 

Hike of the Month: Sky Hike Sunday, June 10, NOON
Have you seen Bear Mountain and the Hudson from 1284 feet in the air? Join us as we hike in the sky atop Bear Mountain. We will meet you at Perkins Tower Parking at 1:00 PM, be sure to bring your camera for this 2 to 3 mile moderate hike.  

Family Fun Hike: Hike to the Fire Tower Sunday, June 17, 12:30 PM
A moderate 4-mile hike to the fire tower, which leads you through spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Weather permitting, the fire tower will be open and you can climb the 62 feet to the rewarding view.  

Free Fishing Clinic: New York State’s Free Fishing Days, Weekend of June 23 and 24, 10 AM
New York State has free fishing day to support the sport of fishing. We will be holding fishing clinics at 10 AM on both June 23 and June 24 to teach the art of fishing. After class you may go to our lakes and try your fishing skills.

Our trails can be steep and rocky, so please wear sturdy hiking shoes. As always our hikes will include stops along the way to interpret natural and historic features. We hike at the pace of our slowest hiker. Hunting is allowed in portions of the park; we suggest wearing hunter orange or bright colors during the hunting season.
